Prior to purchasing Tea’s Me Cafe, former WNBA player Tamika Catchings had been frequenting the restaurant for years, using it as her escape from her hectic career with the Indiana Fever. More than a decade later, when she discovered the original owners were moving and had no known intention of keeping the business open, Tamika played with the idea of buying the shop. And in February 2017, that notion became a reality.
“I couldn’t see this place not being here,” she recalls. “It was a staple not only for myself, but for others.”
With a relaxed atmosphere, Tea’s Me offers a vast selection of black, green, oolong, and white teas as well as herbal infusions, which can be enjoyed by the cup. Tea afficionados can also purchase these offerings by the ounce or pound through the Tea’s Me website. While the cafe does not offer an afternoon-tea service, it does provide a menu with options for breakfast, lunch, or dessert. Tamika continues to learn more about tea, but says that the Tropical Cyclone green tea is still her favorite.
Since taking over the cafe, Tamika has endeavored to make the venue a real community spot. From open-mike nights to an art wall for young artists, she is constantly looking for new ways to bring people together through the teashop.
Tea’s Me is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Saturdays, and from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday.
