While the exterior of the cottage that houses The Cake Bake Shop is stunning, the true splendor of the business awaits inside. One glimpse at the floral fixtures, chandeliers, and butterflies strewn around the venue lets guests know they can expect a nearly magical experience regardless of whether they are stopping in for a tasty treat or to indulge in a leisurely afternoon tea.

“I am happiest when I am in the kitchen,” owner Gwendolyn Rogers says. “When going to parties, I was never the girl to bring the salad. I was always the girl to bring the cake.” After entering a British baking competition and earning a spot as a finalist, she felt called to share her love for baking with others and opened The Cake Bake Shop in 2014. “I wanted a place that would be an extension of my own home, a fun place for families to come.”

If guests want more than the wide array of sweet delicacies offered on The Cake Bake Shop’s menu, teatime is available by reservation from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for $55 per person, or $65 per person to include a flute of French Champagne. Both tea services offer fresh scones with English clotted cream and butter, finger sandwiches, and an assortment of pastries, along with the tea of their choice.

“Everything is served on our beautiful teaware,” Gwendolyn says. In fact, the tea service is so popular at The Cake Bake Shop, she has commissioned a signature china pattern from Lenox that will be used at the bakery’s second location opening this fall. “The tea at our new location in Carmel [Indiana], will be even more elevated than it is here.”
