The Chitra Collection: Part 1

The Chitra Collection
Made of porcelain overglazed with enamels, this Chinese teapot, circa 1960, from the Kangxi period (1654-1722) is decorated with famille verte (green family) style, predominantly in yellow, blue, red, purple, and green. It depicts the eight mythological horses of Mu Want, emperor of the Zhou dynasty (1023-983 BC).

Antique pieces of tea ware are scattered around the world—on display in museums and galleries, stately homes and royal palaces. Many more are privately owned and will never be seen by most tea lovers. But one man has made it his mission to gather the finest tea antiques from tea-drinking countries and to create a collection that honours its heritage and keeps alive the understanding that tea is not only simply
a drink—it also speaks to us of art, culture, philosophy,
and ritual.
