Privately, I will always associate Jing with our return visit to Edward and Louise. We stayed with his parents in a brick country manor house built for Nell Gwynn outside Winchester on the banks of the River Itchen (Izaak Walton loved to fish here). Our friends were simply dazzling. The water meadow was populated by sheep, and the river was just as full of swans as in Walton’s day. A swan swam silently into view, her half-dozen cygnets following, and we stood still on the riverbank as they passed: a perfect example of the kind of perfect moment Jing Tea has brought to Britain at last.
