“We want guests to have that feeling of leaving the modern world behind and coming into a world of beauty and peace, and to be among pretty things,” Carrie comments. “And what better way to do that than with afternoon tea?”
The tea parlor and gift shops’ name combines the names of the partners while also serving as the first hint that guests are in for a unique atmosphere upon entering the establishment. Camella’s Remember When is located in Abingdon, Virginia, in the historic Russell House, which was built circa 1792 and once acted as a command center and hospital during the Civil War. In addition to the tearoom, the building houses two gift shops—one that serves as a tea shop and the other as a boutique of tea paraphernalia and accoutrements. Much of the interior maintains its original colonial design and allows visitors a small glimpse of what life might have been like in centuries past.
