With almost a century-long history, Hotel Viking has welcomed people to Newport, Rhode Island—also referred to as the City by the Sea—on Aquidneck Island since 1926. The notable venue, which is part of the illustrious Historic Hotels of America, offers a number of amenities, including various dining options, 208 contemporary and rakish guest rooms, 14,400-square-feet of banquet space, a luxurious spa, and professional wedding services.
While older than its affiliate hotel, Kay Chapel— dating circa 1859—was purchased and became an addition to Hotel Viking after its restoration in the 1970s. Ever since, countless couples have joined together in matrimony in the auberge’s non-denominational vestry. Once couples have said “I do,” they can gather with their dearest family and friends in one of four spaces in the hotel itself, including two ballrooms, the outdoor courtyard garden, and the Top of Newport, which boasts a stunning view of the city and the beautiful blue of the Atlantic Ocean. For those traveling from out of town, couples may reserve a block of rooms for guests to play-and-stay without needing to leave the hotel.

One notable addition to its dining options for guests and patrons is the hotel’s afternoon tea, served in the boutique bistro One Bellevue. Diners are seated in the restaurant’s garden room, where they are served a tiered stand filled with the chef’s interpretations of traditional teatime fare, including an assemblage of tea sandwiches, pastries, and gluten-free bites. Each guest is provided with a personal pot of the tea of their choice and may even add a glass of Kir Royale or Champagne for a more celebratory meal at an additional cost. According to Emily Rossin, Hotel Viking’s marketing manager, the elegant and festive nature that surrounds the venue’s afternoon tea makes it a popular option for brides to reserve to honor their bridal party before the wedding day. While afternoon tea, at $55 per person, is served each Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., reservations are required 24 hours in advance.
