Liam Ball, who grows tea on Maui, has a similar sense of the historical connections with the present: “I’m thrilled to be involved in this centuries-old way of life. The most wonderful moments for me were my first harvest—the joy of processing and taking the first sip. It makes me appreciate all the work that countless other cultures have put into making tea available to the world.”
His aim has always been to manufacture high-quality Japanese-style green teas. He discovered and grew to love classic Japanese teas during four trips to the island nation. Believing that tea must be grown slowly, with care and patience, Liam has taken his time establishing Na Liko Tea Farm, where he sells planting stock. He shares on his blog much of what he is learning and would love “to see at least one tea plant in every tea shop on the planet.”
