Nathalie and Daniel Cotte were introduced to the art of tea by friends, and a few years later, the couple decided to change their lives, quitting brilliant careers in French and foreign companies to open their own business, Human & Tea, in 2017. Shortly thereafter, they opened another store in the same central area of Lyon called Presqu’île (the land located between the Saône and Rhône rivers).
In their lovely boutiques, you can browse and taste their range of more than 100 black, white, green, and oolong teas, as well as herbal infusions, which they call “pillow teas,” and infused fruit water. (Pricing begins at 8€ for 100 grams and varies by type.) You might wish to try some of the Cottes’ most popular creations, such as, Amadeus (a Keemun black tea with roasted almonds and vanilla) or Victoria (a beautiful blend of Earl Grey black tea, citrus fruits, blue mallow flowers, and corn-flower). You can even make your own tea blend, if you wish. Be prepared to fall in love with their beautiful colored tea tins, too—so chic and contemporary—because as Nathalie and Daniel like to say, “Life is more beautiful with a tea.”
