Stepping away from the crowded, bustling Collins Street or Elizabeth Street entrances and into the sublime oasis of quiet chatter is a welcome respite. Once off the cobbled pavement and inside the national treasure known as the Block Arcade, the stage is set. Overhead looms an extraordinary vaulted ceiling with etched-glass casements and a central cupola, all of which lead right up to Hopetoun’s threshold.
Waiting in the little queue outside the door allows plenty of time to window-shop the delicious assortment of spectacular recipes on the menu. It is said that this is the most photographed window in Australia—a true culinary artist’s masterpiece.
