Chewy Date and Walnut Spice Cookies are loaded with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

Date and Walnut Spice Cookies
Yield: 60 cookies • Preparation: 25 minutes • Bake: 8 minutes • Cool: 15 minutes

Ingredients
  1. ½ cup salted butter, softened
  2. 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  3. 1 large egg
  4. 2 tablespoons water
  5. 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  6. 1 teaspoon natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  7. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  8. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  9. ¼ teaspoon salt
  10. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  11. ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  12. ¾ cup chopped dates
  13. ½ cup chopped toasted walnuts
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Line several rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and brown sugar. Beat at high speed with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg and water, beating to combine. Set aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves, whisking well. Add flour mixture to butter mixture, beating well. Add dates and walnuts, stirring to combine.
  5. Using a levered 1-teaspoon scoop, drop dough 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake until edges are golden brown, approximately 8 minutes. Transfer to wire cooling racks, and let cool completely.
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
