Aloha in a Cup

Tea Chest Hawaii’s line of wellness infusions features caffeine-free blends as well as some that contain caffeine.

One such blend is their Jasmine Mamaki Tea, which some tea lovers have termed “health in a cup.” Mamaki, a flowering plant or small tree in the nettle family, has been used by the indigenous people of the Hawaiian Islands for centuries. It is known to promote a healthy immune system, reduce high blood pressure, and lower cholesterol. Mamaki has been shown to cleanse toxins from the blood as well as relieve stress and fatigue. Tea Chest Hawaii’s Jasmine Mamaki Tea is also known to be high in antioxidants due to the inclusion of high-quality green tea and to be relaxing and naturally sweet thanks to the additional floral notes of jasmine. It is low in caffeine and is refreshing either hot or iced. With its healing properties, subtle taste, and soothing aroma, customers are often instantly won over.

The mamaki Tea Chest Hawaii uses comes from three farms on the islands of Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island, Hawaii. Yet, this is only one of many healthy options the company offers. In 2021, Byron and Satomi introduced a collection of wellness and healing teas containing moringa as a beneficial ingredient, due to its natural medicinal properties.

Moringa is sometimes called “the miracle tree.” This wonder plant is grown without the assistance of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or any chemical fertilizers on Mountain View Farms, which is nestled in a beautiful valley in Waianae, Oahu. Moringa is incorporated in their Mana (a black tea blend to boost immunity) and Olena (a turmeric-based tisane to combat inflammation). Both blends are available in tea bags and as loose tea. Nanea, a third choice in their wellness line, is a beautiful golden-colored tea that promotes a feeling of calm. Nanea means “tranquility” in Hawaiian. Both Olena and Nanea are caffeine free, as is Mahina, which is a sleep aid and also features mamaki and moringa.

When COVID hit, Byron and Satomi asked two groups in their community, “How can we help you?” Their online customers stated their top priority was to remain well and COVID-free, of course. Even now in an endemic phase, customers still seek to stay heathy, and tea is an easy way to add antioxidants, hydration, and relaxation to their lives. “The wellness teas are such a big win-win for so many of our customers, farmers, and even ourselves,” Byron confirms. He agrees that the best way they spread aloha, meaning “love” in Hawaiian, is with their ongoing care and consideration for their faithful customers who enjoy tea.

“Quality and taste are paramount as we strive to maintain our true identity and at the same time, retain the culture of Hawaii,” Byron says, asserting that aloha never fails.

During visits to Honolulu before the COVID era, Annie Meadows was invited several times to enjoy tea and conversation at Tea Chest Hawaii’s warehouse, where Byron and Satomi demonstrated their genuine aloha (love) and hospitality.
