Sunday, September 29
Arrive in Dublin and get settled into The Merrion, a luxury five-star hotel in the heart of the city’s center. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for the hotel’s creative Afternoon Art Tea, where the pastries are inspired by the hotel’s remarkable fine art collection, and The Merrion’s longtime pastry chef, Paul Kelly, will give us exclusive insight into how he came up with the impressive tea fare. Enjoy the evening to rest and relax.

Monday, September 30
We’ll take a short train ride to Howth Castle Cookery School outside the city, where we’ll have a private tour of the more-than-800-year-old castle and will spend the afternoon in a hands-on baking class in the original 18th-century Georgian kitchen, which has been recently refurbished. Before returning to our hotel, we’ll savor the items we have prepared during teatime. You’ll have the evening on your own in Dublin.

Tuesday, October 1
We’ll start our day with a private, tea-themed tour of the magnificent collections of National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History. In the afternoon, we’ll venture to Newbridge Silverware, one of the last working factories of its kind in Europe, where we’ll enjoy a factory tour and then partake of afternoon tea at the Museum of Style Icons. We’ll return to Dublin in time for you to enjoy the rest of the evening on your own.

Wednesday, October 2
We’ll depart Dublin by executive coach to five-star Castlemartyr Resort in County Cork. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a factory tour of Nicholas Mosse Pottery, which is still operated by the Mosse family. At Castlemartyr Resort, costumed interpreters will regale us with local history, and we’ll enjoy a lovely three-course meal together that evening.

Thursday, October 3
We’ll learn traditional Irish teatime baking at the world-renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School, where we’ll also tour its organic farm and gardens. We’ll partake of what we’ve prepared for afternoon tea. Enjoy the remainder of the evening on your own at Castlemartyr Resort.

Friday, October 4
We’ll travel by private coach to picturesque County Kerry, where we’ll visit Kenmare and Killarney and build in plenty of time for shopping and exploring before culminating our day together with afternoon tea at Great Southern Killarney and then returning to Castlemartyr Resort.

Saturday, October 5
We’ll depart early in the morning for Dublin, with a stop at the Waterford Crystal factory for a tour and shopping. From there, we’ll return to The Merrion hotel for a final night.

Sunday, October 6
Enjoy breakfast on your own, and make sure to check out of your hotel room by noon. You are responsible for getting yourself to the airport or your next destination. If you would like to book an extra night at The Merrion hotel, please email ttevents@hoffmanmedia.com.

ACCOMMODATIONS
In Dublin, we’ll stay at The Merrion, which has a spa and several dining options including Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, the first restaurant in the city to hold two Michelin stars. In County Cork, the elegant and historic Castlemartyr Resort will welcome us for three nights. It features four restaurants, a spa, and more than 220 acres of gorgeous, walkable woodlands.

Can I extend my stay at the hotels?
If you’d like to inquire about additional nights, please email ttevents@hoffmanmedia.com. Some guests prefer to book a room for the night before their arrival so it is ready after all-night flights from the US.

Can I upgrade to a suite?
Upgrades are available based on availability. Email us ttevents@hoffmanmedia.com for more information.

Is breakfast included?
Daily breakfast is included.

Are children able to attend this retreat?

If I book a double-occupancy package, will the hotel room have two beds?
Due to the uniqueness and European charm of the hotels, double-occupancy rooms might not have two beds. If you are traveling with a friend or adult child, you can request two sets of linens on one bed.

What should I plan to wear during baking classes and on the retreat?
For baking classes, activities, and travel, the dress is smart casual. Tennis shoes are recommended for standing in baking classes and walking on cobblestone streets. In Ireland and around Europe, athletic wear is not frequently worn. For the welcome afternoon tea at The Merrion and dinner at Castlemartyr Resort, smart casual or semiformal attire is preferred.

How much physical activity can I expect?
Although we will have a private coach for most of our activities, walking will be required for tours and other sightseeing. Participants should be able to walk approximately ½ mile in less than 15 minutes and/or to climb a flight of stairs without extreme shortness of breath or other physical ailments. While in the baking classes, participants should be able to stand for long periods of time.

Are the baking classes hands-on?
Yes, all baking classes are hands-on.

Is this retreat better suited for professionals or home bakers?
Our retreats are geared for passionate home bakers, but professionals and beginners are always welcome.

What will we be baking?
We’ll master sweet and savory scones, biscuits, cakes, blinis, and other sweet and savory Irish classics.

Will we have any free time?
You will have some free time in all locations to explore the areas on your own.

I want to bring my travel companion, but they don’t want to participate in the baking classes. What can they do?
We offer a participant plus guest package for this very reason! This package allows you to bake and participate in all retreat activities while your travel companion explores on their own. As a part of this package, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast, group dinner at Castlemartyr Resort, some tours, and transportation between destinations is included for your travel companion.
