Sunday, April 27
Arrive in Paris and settle into Le Grand Marazin, a five-star hotel in the heart of le Marais, one of the City of Light’s most fashionable neighborhoods. Gather with TeaTime’s editor, Lorna Reeves, and fellow travelers at 4:00 PM at nearby Mariage Frères, just a 5-minute stroll from our hotel. According to contributing editor and award-winning author Jane Pettigrew, “To tea lovers, Paris would not be Paris without Mariage Frères.” After our tea-infused welcome meal at this iconic venue, you are free to explore the city at your leisure.
Monday, April 28
Enjoy breakfast at our hotel before we embark on a guided walking tour of le Marais and Île de la Cité. We’ll spend our afternoon at La Cuisine Paris, an English-speaking culinary school on the shores of the Seine River, where we’ll learn about goûter (the French version of afternoon tea) and will create madeleines, mini gateaux, and other classic French treats. We’ll toast our time at La Cuisine with Champagne and tea while sampling what we have prepared. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own or with newfound friends.
Tuesday, April 29
We’ll start our day with breakfast at our hotel before departing for a bespoke visit to Dammann Frères, one of France’s oldest tea companies. Later in the day, Hôtel Le Meurice’s Le Dalí tea salon will be the site for a trés chic afternoon tea.
Wednesday, April 30
Following breakfast at our hotel, we’ll have a guided, tea-themed visit to the iconic Louvre Museum in which we’ll explore the beverage’s French history and its depiction in a variety of media. In the afternoon, we’ll divide into two smaller groups to experience a workshop titled “The Art of the French Tea Time” at l’Institut Bernardaud, an educational arm of the notable porcelain company, and a tea-and-cheese pairing class curated by Carine Baudry, Sourcing and Creative Director for Nunshen Thé Atelier. Enjoy the remainder of the evening on your own to continue exploring Paris.
Thursday, May 1
Sleep a little later today, if you wish, and enjoy breakfast at our hotel at your leisure and lunch on your own. In the early afternoon, we’ll visit the 19th-century mansion that houses Musée Jacquemard André for a guided exploration of what is said to be the finest private collection of artwork in Paris. We’ll refresh ourselves with goûter in the notable museum’s salon de thé. Use the remainder of the day to continue exploring Paris with newfound friends.
Friday, May 2
Our group will go by private coach for a guided daytrip to Versailles, where we’ll explore the storied palace and Petit Trianon from the point of view of “teaists.” After lunch together, we’ll visit antiques shops in the charming town in hopes of adding to our own collections of teawares.
Saturday, May 3
On the morning of our last full day in Paris, our guide will join us for an outing to a flea market (marché puce) as we search for tea treasures and other souvenirs to tuck into our luggage. After our concluding afternoon tea, you’ll be free to do a little more sightseeing and shopping on your own.
Sunday, May 4
Depart with wonderful memories of our tea-filled week.
