Caramelized Shallot, Parmesan, and Thyme Puff Pastry Swirls
Serves: approximately 10 swirls
Preparation: 20 minutes • Bake: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon salted butter
- ¾ cup sliced shallots
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- ¾ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
- ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a small skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low, and add shallots, stirring occasionally, until shallots are tender and caramelized, approximately 8 minutes. Let cool slightly, and chop finely. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine egg and water, whisking well. Unfold puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Brush with beaten egg mixture. Spread shallots evenly over puff pastry. Sprinkle evenly with cheese, black pepper, and thyme.
- Starting at short end, roll up puff pastry, encasing ingredients. Roll firmly and evenly, and end with seam side down. Using a serrated utility knife, cut into ½-inch slices. Place slices 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with remaining egg mixture.
- Bake until golden brown, approximately 10 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
