Will we have any free time?

You will have some free time in Chicago to explore on your own. We will equip you with our list of favorite restaurants, shops, and activities.

SUNDAY, APRIL 12

Check into The Peninsula Chicago, which was named to La Liste’s World’s Best Hotels for 2025 and tied for #1 hotel in the world. This will be our home away from home for three nights. Get to know other retreat participants during our private welcome afternoon tea at our five-star hotel, where we’ll toast the wonderful experiences that await our group.

MONDAY, APRIL 13

Enjoy breakfast on your own before embarking on a unique guided tour of the The Art Institute of Chicago, in which we’ll explore tea from a variety of angles, including dressing for tea, tea utensils, places for tea, the tea trade, and conversations (spilling the tea) at tea. In the afternoon, we will take a private Gilded Age tour of the Prairie District with a tea luncheon at Wheeler Mansion. Our teatime that day will take the form of a group dinner with a bespoke menu crafted by the Waldorf Astoria’s executive chef, Eric Damidot, who will show us the wide variety of ways tea can be used as an ingredient rather than just a beverage.

TUESDAY, APRIL 14

Learn about teas from lesser-known origins through our curated tea-tasting experience with a tea sommelier at the Chicago Teahouse, which was voted the Best Tea Shop in Chicago. Celebrate our days together in the Windy City with a private and exclusive afternoon tea at The Drake hotel in its iconic Palm Court, where we’ll have the entire breathtaking space all to ourselves.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15

Check out and depart for home with wonderful memories of a tea-filled retreat.
